Graphics

Say what you like about older slots with basic graphics, they often had to be inventive when it comes to gaming symbols. That’s precisely what we find in Treasure Nile, with our gaming symbols proving decent early efforts from Microgaming.

Sphinx, Cobra, Papyrus, Ankh, Anubis - along with other brightly coloured game symbols - make enough of a go of it for us to enjoy spinning the reels.

The Sunset Pyramids game logo is enticing enough as our Wild, while the Scarab Scatter is alluring in terms of looks as well as payouts.


Gameplay

With only nine pay-lines and a single coin set at 0.50 per line, Treasure Nile’s game-play is super simple. We can only land the progressive if we play maximum paylines, with five Sphinxes on the 9th payline landing the jackpot. This does set the jackpot bet required at 4.50, which is not the cheapest of Microgaming’s progressive jackpot slots.

We can, of course, lower the numbers of lines on which we play, though such a strategy minimises potential for base game payouts as well as removing us from the progressive jackpot hunt. That said, Treasure Nile does offer advanced game-play options.

These include autoplay and are accessed via the Expert button beneath the reels.


Verdict

At 4.50 per minimum spin (if we’re looking to scoop the progressive jackpot) Treasure Nile isn’t the cheapest of progressive slot dates.

That said, it does offer more in the way of graphics than many of its contemporaries. But, let’s face it, we’re only going to fire up a vintage slot like this with a view to landing the hefty progressive haul.

At least the win amount is often worthy of the “treasure” in the title.
