This is a super sunny beach bar, and while we might want a fruity cocktail to quench our holiday thirst we’ll have to make do with a fruity smoothie. In the base game, at least.

As playable on desktop as it is on mobile, the Fruit Burst casual game features a series of groovy bartenders behind the juice bar. Beach babe Summer kicks us off and, when we reach level 2, we are introduced to olive-skinned Aloha.

When we reach various levels we meet a new bartender (Ted comes next), each with his or her own unique bonus feature and each with his or her own style of celebration when we score big wins. The fruit juices they serve up depend on the fruit bars we fill. The Cherries, Lemons, Grapes, Melons and Pineapples that make up the game symbols tumble onto the reels, but it is up to us which combinations of three or more we choose to juice.

Each Fruit Blast combo we juice fills up its respective juice bar to the side of the reels, awarding the relevant prizes as we go.

Gameplay

Often, the success of a casual game lies in its simplicity. Skillz Gaming’s Fruit Blast is as simple as they come. We choose our bet level with the “Set Bet” button, hit “Play” and juice away.

We collect stars with each win, which fill up the level meter in the top right of our screens. Sometimes with pay table achievements we have to land ridiculous milestones in order to unlock the next level. Not so here. Each new bartender arrives every three or four levels, with the top-level bartender delivering a tasty x170 payout when we trigger the bonus feature.

We launch each bartender’s bonus game when we tap three pink Bonus symbols, while the game’s top payout of x1,000 our bet lands in our laps when we tap three Jackpot 7 Scatters sending us - and the bartenders - into fruity euphoria.

Verdict

The juicy prizes on offer in Fruit Blast by Skillz Gaming do plenty to whet our whistles, while each new bartender has his or her own unique style and panache with which to wow us on our way to fruity wins.

They are as casual as you like - fitting for a casual game that requires every ounce of Skillz as the developer’s name suggests.

But just because it requires skill doesn’t mean it isn’t fun, fast and fruity, which makes Fruit Blast a shoe-in for the gong of the fruitiest casual game of the bunch.
