Toucans have to be some of the most colourful birds on the planet, and someone in the NextGen slots development team is clearly a fan. Two such vibrant birds sit either side of our reel case, surrounded by jungle with a flowing waterfall providing our backdrop.

Not only do the Toucans look at us expectantly, but they flap their wings and bob their beaks on to the reels, adding additional Wilds to complete winning paylines from nowhere. This is on top of our regular Wild symbols, which substitute for all symbols except Scatters as normal.

A glance at our game symbols shows just why these peckish parrot-like pals keep poking their noses in. Our low-paying 9s through Aces are surrounded by exotic fruits of all kinds, and the Toucans are hungry. They have rivals, though. A greedy-looking Sloth and nimble Lizard make up our top-paying symbols, while Feathers and Flowers add further colour to the reels as medium-payers.

Gameplay

Not only do the Toucans add extra Wilds to the reels when they are feeling peckish, but they get even hungrier when we launch the Fruity Free Games Feature. We need three or more Jungle Scatters to trigger the bonus round, and while we don't earn any extra spins the more Scatters we land, we do enjoy Scatter payouts multiplied by our total bet.

With five Scatters showing off with a x50 multiplier, it's the more the merrier on that front for us as well as the Toucans. With 10 free games to enjoy, the Toucans flap into a frenzy, adding Wilds galore to the reels for the duration of the bonus feature. After any win, if the adventurous jungle spirit has taken hold of us, we can choose to gamble any winnings with NextGen's classic Gamble feature.

On the flip of a card we can double any win if we guess the correct colour of the next card, or quadruple our win if we pick the right suit.

Verdict

With such vibrant birds in the title of this game it was vital that NextGen followed it up with vibrant gameplay, which is precisely what they have done.

The exotic setting is superb, as is the Caribbean music that accompanies each spin that will have your heads bobbing and your hips swaying as you spin these reels in search of winning combinations. Those combinations keep coming, not least thanks to those Toucans by the side of our reels that throw in extra Wilds on whims, and even more so during the aptly named Fruity Free Games Feature. Yum.
