Alchemy Blast blends slots play with the ancient arts in a classy way thanks to the design expertise of Skillzz Gaming. When we first load up the game, we meet the alchemist, Lita Flamel, who joins us on our crafting journey and acts as a guide throughout, appearing as an icon on the top of the screen. The reel case sits between alchemy apparatus, with what can only be some scientific elements bubbling below.

We’re not chemists but we do know it helps to create winning formulas! The game symbols are elements of various colours – Red, Blue, Pink, Green and Gold - and have different Runes etched on them to make them stand out further.

When we match clusters the elements disappear with a satisfactory pop.

Gameplay

The cluster pays mechanic elevates this slot to be much more than that. As fun as traditional slots like Witchcraft Academy are, Skillzz Gaming is renowned for pushing the envelope and melding slots with mobile games.

Which means that Alchemy Blast plays out more as an interactive game like Candy Crush than a traditional slot. We actively control the symbols as we attempt to make clusters of three or more elements, blasting them (alchemy style) off the screen to make way for more symbols. A meter for each element sits at the top of the reelcase so we can see how many times we’ve won from matching those symbols as we fill the meters. The numbers below represent that symbol’s Multiplier, ranging from x0.5 - x10, which we can fill multiple times if we collect enough vials.

Another feature that sets this game apart from other cluster pays slots is our chance to mix our own potions before each round by choosing our primary elixir. We need to explode these elixirs when they appear on elements of three or more to trigger the bonus features.

The blue elixir unlocks the Mystery Box bonus which awards us a bet Multiplier for every correct elixir we pick, while the Pink Elixirs take us to the Wisdom Library for more Multipliers. But it’s the Green Elixirs we really want in our concoctions as three of them unlock free rounds, essentially Free Spins, which also award more Multipliers along the way. Now that’s magic!

Verdict

At first it can take a while to get to grips with how Alchemy Blast works. Okay, so the symbols disappear after matching up and more fall in – simple, we get that. But along with the Multiplier counters for each symbol there are elixirs to collect too.

It might take a spin or two to understand this mechanic, but once you have got the hang of it and created some impressive results you will be more than ready to shred your apprentice tag and become a fully fledged alchemist.
