What do slot developers and Mayan themes have in common? A cluster layout with exploding reels, that’s what. Similar to the Avalanche reels on Gonzo’s Quest, this slot features tumbling reels with symbols falling into winning clusters.

Gameplay

On first glance, Contact looks like a fairly straightforward slot. It’s got tumbling reels instead of the typical slot reel mechanism, which means when you get a winning cluster, the non-winning symbols are removed.

The winning ones lock in place and move down while fresh symbols fall down from above. It’s an entertaining twist on the slots and one that we’ve seen before, of course. But it’s still good. What makes Contact even better though are the bonus features. Fill the second, third or fifth row with winning symbols and you’ll bag a respective x2, x3, or x4 multiplier. But when you build cluster wins up to the top row you trigger the Bonus Round with an initial 3 Free Spins. Fill the whole grid with winning symbols and you launch the Super Bonus Round, with an initial 6 free spins. This time, the bonuses are upgraded, so more spins, more upgrades and more multiplier block destruction. We also have upgrade symbols to boost our winnings.

The Block Destroyer destroys one of the Multiplier blocks, giving you more chances for other Multiplier blocks to fall down and increase the Multiplier. Now we can reach up to x30 win Multiplier, boosting our total jackpot amount up to an incredible 126,000 coins. Neat!

Verdict

Our Contact review looks like this cluster pay slot crams a whole lot into one game. And it does. Not content with crisp graphics and smooth animation, it utilises the tumbling reels mechanism.

While it’s an odd way to trigger bonuses and Multipliers, at least it’s something different to other slots out there. To use a popular term, it’s “same-same but different”. And difference with familiarity can only be a force for good.
