The friendly purple gorilla (yes, it’s purple) joins us as the slot’s mascot. Gary, or King Gary as he’s wearing a crown, scratches himself on the left of the screen, gazing across at the reels.

Above him are a bunch of bananas which he jumps up to grab at random. The more he eats, the closer we get to some funky features. Meanwhile, we can enjoy the rest of the jungle foliage that sits in the background, with jungle critters making up the main symbols.

All drawn in a cartoonish manner, we get Monkeys, Toucans, Lemurs and the traditional card values as the high and low paying symbols. With each win the symbols come to life but our favourite has to be the King Gary symbol, we love watching him howl with excitement when he forms part of a winning combination.

Gameplay

Gorilla Goes Wild uses ‘evolving gameplay’, which means that it gets more exciting and rewarding the more we play. In the base game there are a range of randomly triggered bonuses, such as Gary’s Bonus Time, in which Gary can reward us with an instant cash prize.

Or he gives us entry into the Gary the Gorilla’s Kingdom feature. And while we’re spinning away, he will reach up and eat a banana from above him, which swings us to a new area of the jungle each time he does. When the bananas are gobbled up, our frequency of triggering the Bonus Time feature increases. Wow.

And that’s just base game bonuses. The Gary the Gorilla’s Feature Kingdom launches when we land three or more Temple symbols, giving us a choice of features. We could get the Gorillionaire Win Spins, the Stay Wild, the Mega-Rilla Multiplier or the More Wilds feature. Each of these can be triggered when we activate the Feature Kingdom feature more times.

So the first time, we get ten spins as part of the Gorillionaire Win Spins. But when we’ve got past five Feature Kingdom triggers, we unlock the Stay Wild and it keeps advancing up in stages of five. It’s the slot that keeps on giving!

Verdict

Gorilla Goes Wild would be a lot easier to follow if the bonus names didn’t mainly have ‘Gary’ in the title but, after a while playing, it’s easy to understand. It’s fun to advance through the bonus rounds, earning new rewards the more we play.

But it’s not just new rewards, it’s bigger and better rewards to boot. It makes us dance around the room, aping around to the funky soundtrack while Gary grazes on bananas. Yum.
