There’s only one place this action can unfold - the high seas. Our five reels sit atop choppy waves. Ahab rides his whaling ship, perched on the bow, harpoon at the ready. He takes out his telescope to search for his nemesis, scanning the stormy seas. But, while Ahab and Moby Dick are arch enemies, they make up the game’s two top paying symbols and prove they can be friends when we score big wins.

Ahab surfs atop his prey, and Moby Dick doesn’t look too disgruntled about it. Our other game symbols are an Anchor, Flagon of tea (or is it ale?) and lesser paying 10s through Aces.

When we score winning combos, the Win Freezing Feature is enabled. This locks that winning combo by hammering wooden planks on top of the square symbols, a nice touch from the developers, as is the Ship’s Wheel Wild that substitutes for all symbols except Scatters.


Gameplay

Not only do we enjoy a suitably urgent seafaring shanty to accompany our gameplay, but we can also look forward to a Free Spins feature when we land four or more Free Spins Scatters, designed as the looming open mouth of the eponymous whale.

Four, five, six or seven Scatters triggers 10, 12, 15 or 20 free spins respectively, and now those Ship’s Wheel Wilds appear readily on reel 3. With a whole Wild reel to aim at, we have as much in site as the broadside of a whale, and with the chance to retrigger the feature from within the Free Spins game we have a shot at as bounteous a voyage as we could hope to achieve when we set sail.

But are you merely out for the booty, or do you like a gamble? The Gamble feature gives us the chance to double our money when faced with two flagons of tea. All we have to do is pick out the tea bag. Lift out the dead fish and we head back to the base game with nothing.


Verdict

With a yo and a ho and very likely a bottle of rum into the bargain, Microgaming and Rabcat take us on a journey through time, space and literature.

The visual flourishes work a treat to deliver excellent in-game atmosphere, while the Win Freezing feature ticks us over on our mission across the high seas like a flagon of finest grog.

But, just as Ahab pined for his meeting with his nemesis, so we pine for that Free Spins feature. Land that, and the Wild reel it brings with, and we are sure to be heading back to shore with more than wind in our sails.
