We don’t have to revisit our box sets of Sharpe to enjoy depictions of war in the 1800s. Instead we can get it all, and more, on this slot. Apart from Sean Bean.

Napoleon: Rise of an Empire is a five reel, 20 payline slot that lets us embark on a mission for glory with the great French military leader. Set against the background of the reel case is a battlefield, thick smog floating across with Napoleon leading the cavalry charge in the corner.

Across the reels themselves, we see symbols comprised of Boats, Cannons, Infantry and Horses – all elements of war hitting close to home. The card values 9 to Ace also appear, along with the Napoleon Wild and the Bonus symbol.

The element of war is reinforced with each spin – armadas attacking, Napoleon plotting and horses marching across the battlefield. With the sound on high, it’s a near realistic experience. Or at least like being on the set of Sharpe.

Gameplay

Blueprint Gaming is typically known for slots that have bonus features in abundance. While this isn’t the same for this slot, that’s not to say we won’t be blown apart (Ha! Napoleon Blown-Apart!) by the ones that are available.

The Napoleon Wild isn’t just wild. It’s the Wild Multiplier. Which means whenever he lands on the reels, our wins are multiplied, with the chance to get up to 16 times our prize when he appears four times. Napoleon also appears during base spins, adding more Bonus symbols and shouting his war cry at the top of the screen.

The Bonus symbol triggers free spins, with 10 free spins up for grabs. During this round, the Napoleon Streak can kick in on winning spins. Matching symbols stay in place and the reels respin, locking in extra wins.
While the soldiers have their fingers firmly on the triggers, ours are on the free spins, waiting to retrigger them and blast away to glorious winnings. Which is only fitting when we’ve got a whopping cannon posing in the corner of the screen.

Verdict

Napoleon might not have succeeded as far as he wished, but his legend stands the test of time.

He’s not only a main character in the first Bill and Ted film, but, more importantly, he’s the big shot on this slot from Blueprint Gaming. And he shoots pretty far as well, especially when we can land up to a huge x10,000 our stake. Perhaps Napoleon has succeeded in everything after all.
