Rainbow Riches Pick ‘N’ Mix is very similar to the original Rainbow Riches, borrowing the same graphics and familiar leprechaun, but with some added extra oomph. The reels all appear in a shiny gold frame, with an Emerald Isle-inspired green background.
Card values make up the symbols, 10, Jack, Queen, King and Ace, and funnily enough they’re all in the reds and greens and blues of the rainbow! The Wild symbol is a Gold Coin with Wild emblazoned upon it and then there are the Bonus symbols, which are the key parts of this slot.
Just like the original Rainbow Riches slot game, the base game graphics are certainly basic. The graphics might also be basic in the bonus rounds, but they are injected with the same fun humour that is a feature of the Rainbow Riches series.
So how has this improved upon the original slot? Why, with the pick ‘n’ mix aspect of course. Microgaming’s Game of Thrones slot allows us to choose which version of Free Spins features we pick, but not the kind of feature we can play.
On Rainbow Riches Pick ‘N’ mix we can choose three out of five possible bonuses before we begin playing. The less we pick, the more chances we have of triggering that particular feature. Once we’ve made our choice, only those Bonus symbols will appear in the game. For instance, the headshot of the Leprechaun is the symbol for the Road to Riches bonus, and when it appears three or four times we get to spin a wheel and add Multipliers until we reach the end of the round.
The Pots of Gold symbol triggers the Pots of Gold (original) Bonus, in which pots fly around our leprechaun friend until they stop, revealing a Multiplier. The Free Spins are a classic and three, four of five of them give us 10, 20 or 30 Free Spins, respectively. The Leprechaun triggers the Cash Crop, another bonus round that goes to a different screen. Here we see spinning coins and as they slowly stop to reveal Multipliers or cash prizes, we can either carry on with the round or collect our wins. Finally, the Magic Toadstool (triggered by, you guessed it, the Toadstool) is a pick-a-choice round, again giving us wins or Multipliers.
While we can play the base game, spin away to the end of the rainbow and use all the bonus features, there is another way to get to them quickly. Selecting the Big Bet button (signposted by the BB button on the right of the screen) takes us to another screen showing three wheels, one for each of our selected bonuses. It may cost more but if it’s bonuses we’re after, that’s the price we pay.
Rainbow Riches is one of the most popular slots around. And one of the best Irish-themed slots to boot. Barcrest, via SG Digital, has made a very clever sequel. It’s not just updated graphics and leprechaun shenanigans.
The pick ‘n’ mix aspect lets us vary our experience as we play, choosing the bonuses we like or trying them out to maximise our wins. Or we can just get straight to it with the Big Bet option. Nice.
